City calls for ban on new diesel private hire vehicles

In line with other previous policies from the City, the Corporation last week called for a ban on new diesel ‘private hire vehicles’ or PHVs in our response to the Mayor of London’s recent air quality consultation.

The City is also seeking to remove all PHVs from fleets as soon as possible so as to protect the public breathing in the toxic mixture of diesel emissions – current licences are due to be phased out by 2020.

The MoL consultation invited Londoners to give their views on the proposals from the Mayor to introduce a new Emission Surcharge and to bring forward the Ultra-Low Emission Zone from 2020 to 2019.
